How To Speed Up Your Slow Computer

Why Is My Computer Slower Than Cold Tar?
Repair Most PC Errors Automatically with REGCURE!

A while back, I got rid of my slow computer because I didn't realize there were certain steps I could have taken to restore it to "like new" status! I went out and simply purchased a new PC, because I thought that was the only way to get faster speeds (even though my 'slow' system was once fast).

If you have ever purchased a new PC, and you loved the speed of your new computer, only to be disappointed a few months later as it gradually ran slower and slower, then you understand exactly what happened to me when I purchase my new PC. It took a long time to boot up, run certain programs, windows would hang forever, and my internet speeds were pathetic!

After diagnosing these problems myself...I realized that the answer wasn't to run out and buy another new PC, but rather, there were simple procedures I could perform myself to restore my PC to "like new" status...

Nine Steps To Fix A Slow Computer:

1. The very first goal you should have is to remove all Spyware from your PC system. Spyware is prevalent on almost 95% of all computers, especially if you spend any time online and downloading any kinds of files (mp3's, software, toolbars, file sharing software, etc...).

Spyware removal software provides very good protection and removal capability against all known Trojans, data-mining programs, annoying popup ads, dialers, malware, adware, browser hijackers, and more...

Any one of these malicious programs can compromise your computer system and data, and leave you open and vulnerable to attacks and identity theft!

Recommended: Run the top rated Paretologic Anti-Spyware on your computer today! We tested head-to-head against four other leading Spyware remover programs and it we rated it "Best Program". You can see that full review and download your free Spyware removal scan at Spyware-Remover-Help.org.

2. Make sure your version of Microsoft Windows is updated to insure that you have the latest security patches. You can visit the Microsoft update center HERE. Make sure you keep your computer set to receive "automatic updates" whenever they become available.

3. Make sure that Internet Explorer is secure by adjusting some of the settings in the IE toolbar menu. If you are running an older version that IE 7.0, then simply go to your Tools Menu in IE, and select Internet Options. Select the "Privacy Tab" and adjust the settings lever to Medium, and check the "block popups" checkbox at the bottom of the screen.

IE 7.0 went overboard on security settings, and you'll find you actually need to go in and reduce some of the settings to even visit certain websites, or get javascript to work.

I am a Firefox man, and I recommend you become one as soon as possible! it is a MUCH easier and more stable browser to user (IE 7.0 will use almost all your available RAM, and I have 2 GB!).

So hurry over to Firefox.com and download your FREE copy of Firefox internet browser...you'll thank me!

4. Remove any and all unnecessary programs from your startup menu...they tend to accumulate as fast as breeding rabbits! you can do this manually by going to the "Start" button on the lower left hand side of your windows screen, and selecting "Run", then enter MSCONFIG. Open the startup tab, If any of the long list of programs you will probably not recognize.

Some of these programs are necessary for your computer to operate normally, but most are not. As a rule of thumb, anything with the word "tray" in it should be left checked. If you don't recognize a particular program in your startup menu, then you can visit the handy resource at http://processlibrary.com/ where you can get a complete description of any program...then you can decide which programs to remove from your windows startup.

By removing as many non-essential startup programs as possible, you can significantly increase the speed of your PC! In the event you make a mistake and remove a necessary program from windows startup, you can always revert back to your original state my running MSCONFIG again and selecting the startup tab, and the just select "Restore Startup Programs".

5. Make certain you have installed and are running an effective Firewall program, A Firewall enforces security on your PC and can either be a software or hardware solution. A Firewall can be compared to a heavy duty lock on a door that leads to a room in a building...only authorized users who have the keys can enter. Running a good Firewall on your computer will keep it running fast, and is essential for your security (especially if you have an "always on" internet connection like broadband cable or DSL).

One of the most effective Firewall software solutions we have tested is The Shield Pro 2007. The cost is only $29.99 and it can immediately be downloaded HERE.

6. Good Registry Cleaner software that removes the clutter and junk files that build up inside your PC from installing and uninstalling programs over time will make a substantial difference in your computer speed. Without this necessary "tune up", which should be run every week, your computer will continue to get more sluggish with use, and worse yet, you will start getting those dreaded error messages!

I would never recommend that you edit the computer registry yourself, as this is an extremely difficult task for even the most seasoned computer programmers. One wrong move and you can end up causing permanent damage to your operating system, or even render your data unusable and unrecoverable!

We actually just finished an exhaustive test and head-to-head review of five of the leading registry cleaners currently available. RegCure, our top rated and recommended registry cleaner, fixed a whopping 822 errors on our test PC and increased system performance by 15%!

We definitely recommend you download your Free RegCure PC scan right now, you are only five minutes away from an error-free computer!

7. Make sure to De-fragment your hard drive frequently. As you use your PC, it breaks up the data store on the hard drive and saves them into "chunks", when you attempt to reopen those data files, the computer must search all over the hard drive and collect these scattered "chunks" of data and reassemble them so your software program will run correctly.

De-fragmenting the hard drive will arrange all of these scattered data chunks into a contiguous order that will drastically speed up the search process of your computer, and hence, your system speed and performance will increase. Simply open Windows Explorer and right click on the "C" drive, then select "Properties", then "Tools" and then select "Defragment Now".

8. If your system shipped with an Anti Virus program, open it and update the virus data files. If not, then I highly recommend you download MacroVirus Anti-Virus software...it was our top rated Anti Virus program!

9. One of the last things you can do to increase system performance is to open your Add/Remove program icon in your Control Panel. You will probably see a long list of programs...some of which you never use. Make sure and uninstall any unnecessary programs, as they consume resources and will slow down your PC.
